Nombrio
An AI brand-name generator that clears trademarks before you commit — so founders stop paying five-figure rebrand bills.
The problem we set out to solve
Picking a company name has quietly become one of the most expensive decisions a founder makes. Free name generators skip trademark checks entirely. Professional attorneys charge $1,500+ per name and take weeks. DIY applications fail almost half the time.
The result is a pattern we kept seeing: founders pick a name, build a brand around it, and then — months or years later — get a cease-and-desist and spend $10,000 to $750,000 rebranding. Nombrio exists to make that outcome preventable in about a minute, for the price of a lunch.
What we built
Nombrio is a focused SaaS that combines AI brand-name generation with simultaneous clearance across three jurisdictions, plus domain and social-handle availability, packaged into a clean one-click report. A founder briefs it on their business, gets eight candidates, and sees a single verdict per name.
Behind that simple surface is a multi-provider integration layer, an iterative generation pipeline that actually learns from clearance failures, and the subscription, quota, and reporting infrastructure needed to run it at production scale.
The hard parts we solved
Clearing three jurisdictions in one pass
USPTO, EUIPO, and UK IPO each have their own API shape, auth model, rate limits, and data quirks. We engineered a unified clearance layer that normalises results across all three so a founder sees a single verdict — not a spreadsheet.
Catching near-matches, not just exact ones
A trademark conflict is rarely a spelling match. We built phonetic and semantic similarity scoring so "Syntek" surfaces when "Sintec" already exists — preventing the expensive rebrand six months after launch.
Generating names that actually pass the checks
Plain LLM output flunks clearance more than it succeeds. Our generation pipeline iterates against the validation layer — when too many candidates fail, it pivots strategy instead of returning garbage.
Keeping unit economics sane
AI-per-name pricing would make the product uneconomic. We batch registry lookups, cache results with the right TTL per source, and push long-running work onto async workers so the user-facing request stays snappy.
Subscription billing without surprise overages
Tiered plans, top-up packs, free previews, and an annual confidence guarantee all coexist in one ledger. We own the idempotency, quota logic, and Stripe webhook reconciliation end to end.
The outcome
Nombrio is live at nombrio.com. Plans range from a one-time single report to unlimited monthly use, with an annual confidence guarantee for higher-stakes launches. It's the product we wanted to exist before we picked our own company names — now it does.
Thinking about building something like this?
Nombrio is one of our own products — but the same team, playbook and engineering rigour is what we bring to client work. If you're scoping an AI-assisted SaaS, a multi-provider integration, or anything that has to work end-to-end on day one, we should talk.
